Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman to go into
space. She was born in Russia in 1937. She worked in
a textile factory and her hobby was parachuting.
She was selected to travel into space in the spacecraft
Vostok 6. In 1963, she orbited the Earth in Russia’s
space program. Valentina is an important person in
history because, she proved that women have the same
ability in space as men.
