British Houses
Most people in Britain live in a house but in the big cities a lot of people live in flats. Generally, people in Britain don’t live in the city centre. The buildings there are usually just offices and shops. Most people live in the suburbs.
Most houses have got a living room, a dining room and a kitchen. On the first floor there are usually two or three bedrooms and a bathroom. Children usually have their own bedroom. Some share a room with a brother or sister. A lot of houses have a garden, too.
When people describe a house they say how many bedrooms it has got. For example, it’s a two-bedroomed flat. It’s a four-bedroomed house.
In some countries people often have a flat in a town and a house in the country, but this is not very common in Britain.
Right now, I’m living in a big house with my parents and my two sisters. My house doesn’t have a garden.
