Explicación:

La mejor forma de saber si la respuesta debe ir en forma Simple o Continua es basándose en el contexto, es decir, el resto de la frase, intentando resolverlo mentalmente de ambas maneras y eligiendo la que suena (más) coherente.

Por ejemplo:

[1] a) Shhhh! Be quiet! John is sleeping. (Present Continuous)

[2] a) Shhhh! Be quiet! John sleeps. (Present Simple)

En este caso, la que suena más coherente (especialmente en inglés) es la que esta en forma Continua.
