Law is also the social science that studies, interprets and systematizes the order for its correct application. Law is intimately connected to politics, economics, sociology, and history, and it is at the center of complex human problems such as determining what is fair.
There is no generally accepted or consensual definition of the law. The more general questions about the character and content of law are studied by the philosophy of law and the theory of law. For this reason, law has been considered simultaneously a science and an art.4 7 8
In the 3rd century, the Roman jurist Ulpiano coined the division of the science of law into two main branches: public law, which regulates the performance of public powers; and private law, which regulates relationships between natural and legal persons. This division, broadly speaking, persists today. Some important branches of public law are, among others, constitutional law, administrative law or criminal law; civil law, commercial law or labor law belong to private law. Some disciplines such as international law also obey this classification, dividing into public and private international law.
