Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (Sabaneta, Barinas, Venezuela; July 28, 1954-Caracas, March 5, 2013) was a Venezuelan politician and military man, president of Venezuela from February 2, 1999 until his death in 2013. He was also leader of the Fifth Republic Movement from its foundation in 1997 until 2007, when it merged with other parties to create the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), which he led until 2012.
