The robber and murderer Richard Schuh was the last to ascend in West Germany, on February 18, 1949, to the scaffold. As the execution record says, Schuh allowed "quietly and without saying anything the guillotining by the executioner and his assistants." A priest said a prayer out loud and then "the corpse was placed in a coffin and handed over to an envoy from the Anatomical Institute."
