Performance indicators measure the effectiveness of fisheries management activities undertaken to achieve policy objectives. In broad terms, they lead to three categories of representation:
simple trends in absolute values, such as catches or employment;
quantitative and qualitative changes in infrastructure or institutional arrangements that influence management results, such as changes in the regime of access rights or the degree of participation of fishers;
trends in relative values [not between the absolute value and related benchmarks, such as Maximum Sustainable Yield (RMS) or Maximum Economic Yield (REM)].
