LIGHT AND HEAT
The sun gives us light and heat. It gives us light only during the day; during the
night it is invisible, but then we see the moon and the stars in the sky.
The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. In summer it rises early and sets
late: the days are long. In winter it rises late and sets early: the days are short.
It is light during the day, and we can see well. It is dark during the night
because the sun is not visible. We must turn on the light if we want to see or
work. There is electric light in modern houses, but old ones still have gas light.
The sun warms the earth more in the summer than in winter. When it is cold,
we are obliged to heat our rooms. In some places people must light fires in order
to be warm and safe.
To light a fire, we can use wood and matches, or coal. Nowadays houses have
electrical chimneys to keep us comfortable.

LUZ Y CALOR
El sol nos da luz y calor. Nos da luz solo durante el día; durante el
de noche es invisible, pero luego vemos la luna y las estrellas en el cielo.
El sol sale por el este y se pone por el oeste. En verano se levanta temprano y se pone
tarde: los días son largos. En invierno se levanta tarde y se pone temprano: los días son cortos.
Hay luz durante el día y podemos ver bien. Esta oscuro durante la noche
porque el sol no es visible. Debemos encender la luz si queremos ver o
trabajo. Hay luz eléctrica en las casas modernas, pero las antiguas todavía tienen luz de gas.
El sol calienta la tierra más en verano que en invierno. Cuando hace frío,
estamos obligados a calentar nuestras habitaciones. En algunos lugares, la gente debe encender fuego para
estar abrigado y seguro.
Para encender un fuego, podemos utilizar leña y fósforos, o carbón. Hoy en día las casas tienen
chimeneas eléctricas para mantenernos cómodos.
