Ritalin has been shown to increase attention span and improve academic performance
in children diagnosed with ADHD (Evans et al., 2001). To demonstrate the effectiveness
of Ritalin, a researcher obtains a sample of 25 children and measures their attention span
(the amount of time the child is able to focus on a task) twice: first before taking Ritalin,
and second after taking Ritalin. The researcher found that Ritalin increased attention span
by an average of 6.8 minutes.
