Usamos tanto el futuro simple (will) y la expresión be going to (futuro idiomático) para referirnos al futuro.

Future simple (will)

Se utiliza para hablar de:

• Decisiones hechas en el momento.

I'm not busy, so I'll help you with your homework!

• Predicciones sin fundamento, opiniones.

I think the white horse will win the race.

• Ofrecimientos, promesas, pedidos.

Will you help me with my homework, please?

Idiomatic future (be going to)

Se utiliza para hablar de:

• Predicciones fundamentadas.

It is very cloudly. I believe it is going to rain.

• Planes ya establecidos e intenciones.

I'm going to invite a lot of people to my birthday party.

A pesar de estas reglas, muchas veces se pueden usar ambas expresiones intercambiablemente ya que tienen un significado muy similar.
