• In October 2010, the United Nations recognized the imperative need for interfaith dialogue to promote mutual understanding and tolerance among people of different nations. Since then, in the first week of February of each year the World Interfaith Harmony Week has been celebrated, which brings together all religions and confessions.

• The celebration of this Week was proposed by His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. A month later, the proposal was approved unanimously by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. The idea was born from the 2007 "A Common Word" initiative, which promoted interreligious dialogue, calling for the search for points of union and understanding between Christian and Muslim leaders with a view to promoting peace. As a result of this initiative, World Interfaith Harmony Week provides an opportunity for people of all faiths to participate in interfaith activities to promote harmony and tolerance.
