La novela describe los acontecimientos que rodean el asesinato de Santiago Nasar, un joven que toma la virginidad de Angela Vicario. En su noche de bodas, después de descubrir que ella no es virgen, el marido de Ángela, Bayardo San Román, la devuelve a su casa. Los hermanos gemelos de Ángela, Pedro Vicario y Pablo Vicario, le preguntan quién tomó su virginidad, y ella les dice que el culpable es Santiago Nasar. Es entonces cuando hermanos van en busca de Santiago, lo encuentran y lo matan.

La narración de la novela no es lineal. El narrador comienza la historia contándonos sobre la casa de Santiago Nasar la mañana en que fue asesinado. En el transcurso del capítulo, nos enteramos de que Santiago vivía con su madre, Plácida Linero; su cocinera, Victoria Guzmán; y su hija, Divina Flor. El padre de Santiago, Ibrahim Nasar, murió hace tres años. Después de que su padre muriera, Santiago se ha hecho cargo del rancho familiar, que ha tenido mucho éxito; los Nasar son una familia rica dentro de su comunidad.

This is the story of Elio, an Italian boy who lives on a farm in a small town from Italy.

Every year, for six weeks, the family welcomes a young professor who needs to do research and submit essays to the university.

However, when Elio sees Oliver come down, something happens to him that has never happened to him: he falls in love with him.

The story tells us how the adolescent infatuation and the internal struggle that Elio has to declare his love for Oliver: fear of feeling rejected by him, for never seeing him again, and for thinking of not doing it with the torture of a great perhaps.
