Abstract:
El objetivo central del presente artículo consiste en analizar el proceso histórico que se desenvuelve desde 1830, a partir del inicio de la República de Venezuela, hasta el ascenso a la presidencia de Antonio Guzmán Blanco en 1870. A tal efecto, el artículo se consagra al estudio de la evolución del comercio exterior, los problemas afrontados por la agricultura, el papel desempeñado por el sector mercantil y las reformas de las leyes de crédito. A partir de una visión panorámica se observa una persistente inestabilidad que se refleja en múltiples discrepancias políticas y económicas, especialmente en torno al papel económico del Estado. La situación parece mejorar sustancialmente en el contexto de las reformas instauradas por el régimen guzmancista, cuyo proyecto está orientado a alcanzar la centralización política y la modernización económica

Abstract:
Economic conflicts and socio-political tensions in Venezuela (1830-1870) The main objective of this article consists of analyzing the historical process that is unfolding since 1830, after the beginning of the Republic of Venezuela, until the ascent to the presidency of Antonio Guzman Blanco in 1870. For that purpose, the article focuses on the study of development of foreign trade, the problems faced by agriculture, the role played by the commercial sector and the reforms of credit laws. From an overview, we can see the presence of a persistent instability which is reflected in multiple political and economic differences, especially about the economic role of the state. The situation appears to improve substantially in the context of the reforms introduced by the regime of Guzmán Blanco, whose project is aimed at achieving political centralization and economic modernization
