It is even known that the recipes contained specific instructions, that is, duration of the bath, rest intervals, walks in the sand.
Thus, here also enters the influence and social change that took place at the time of the Industrial Revolution, cities began to transform and the habits of workers as well, that is, leisure time became necessary and health was most valued. By then, the aristocracy of the time already frequented the beaches for the medical reasons mentioned, likewise because it became a popular practice and nobody wanted to be left out of it.
The same happened in other countries, for example, the monarchs of the House of Habsburg visited the coasts of Croatia. The fashion spread to other places such as France, Germany, the Scandinavian peninsula and soon reached the American continent in the English colonies. For example, in Coney Island, in 1884, the first roller coaster in the United States was inaugurated and fun, games and nightlife began to be associated with the beach as well.
The growth of the railways is also mentioned at the height of the Industrial Revolution, something that made it possible for many more people, in addition to the aristocracy, to have the luxury of visiting the coast for recreation. This also forced the implementation of facilities for beach activities soon. An example of this are the bathing machines, which were widely used for the inconvenience of bathing in public in a time as modest as the 18th century.
The same happened with clothes; fashion met this new need and clothing suitable for swimming soon emerged. Swimsuits as we know them now, let alone the explosive bikini, changed and forced the change of what was dressed on the beaches.
As can well be assumed, the immense hotel chains that were built along all the coasts of the world are due to the great demand for accommodation that has been growing over time due to tourism. The more accessible air flights, the heyday of international tourism and of course, the great economic impact that this means for the countries that are visited also influence here. Only in Mexico, tourism on the beach represents 80% of the total income from tourism.
Of course this brings, apart from fun, recreation and profit, a complicated situation for the many beaches on the planet. Coastal erosion is one of the many factors that beaches suffer; likewise the contamination that exists by visitors, in addition to the devastation of the natural fauna and flora of the beach.
Thus, this fashion that began at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century has spread to the present day with great changes and additions to medical indications that made people see that the beach was more than an unattractive place and that could well be a place of rest, of fun and, of course, of luxury.
