I would like to tell you about my favorite city... Madrid!

I don't know why I appreciate it so much. I have never lived there and there are other beautiful cities that compete with it: Barcelona, Granada, Malaga, Seville, etc. However, every time I come back I feel good and I like to see places I have already visited.

First of all, let's start from the beginning...

How do you get there from another city in Spain or from abroad?

The airport in Madrid is called Barajas. There are numerous companies present, including low-cost companies such as Ryanair. It is the one that I advise you to travel since it is the cheapest. But if you prefer to pay a little more and fly more comfortably, there are also others: Iberia, Jetairfly, etc. Once at the airport, you can take a subway ticket (special, because when you leave the airport you pay a supplement) that takes you to the center. Nothing is easier than that.

There is also the bus. The bus station of Madrid is in the south of the city. The company that goes all over Spain from the capital is Alsa.

There is also the train, although it is more difficult to get offers and prices allowed. The main company is Renfe. The station is located one metro stop from the bus station and is called "Atocha". It is one of the first curiosities to see in Madrid because it is the largest station where you can find plants, turtles ... Curious!

I advise you to share a car. In Spain I recommend Bla Bla Car. It is not expensive and you can trust the people you travel with. In general, I select drivers who already have positive comments and several active journeys. I send them an email, wait for their response, then call them to reconfirm one last time the route and the meeting point.

What to see?

There are a lot of things to see in Madrid. I am not going to make an exhaustive list as it would be very boring but in short, Madrid is a city with incredible museums that cost very little. Either because they are free or because they cost a few euros as a symbol.

Paintings

Here are some samples for painting: the Reina Sofia (with the famous Guernica, many paintings by Dali); The Prado and the Thyssen. I especially recommend the Reina Sofia. Especially with the audio guide (it is all very interesting). The visit lasts at least three hours with the audio guide but you can come back the next day if you don't have time and don't have to pay again (the entrance was free when I went).

The Prado is located in a beautiful building that I advise you to go and see if only for the pleasure of the view. There are many paintings but personally I was less interested since I visited it without an audio guide.

The "Retiro" park

It is a large park near the Atocha station and the Prado. It is very beautiful. It always has a lot of atmosphere, street vendors, musicians, etc. There is a glass palace to see in which you can enter. Now, there is an exhibition of contemporary art installed. There is a huge side where you can kayak or rent a skate with a huge statue in front. There is also an English garden (Rosario) at the end of the park, quite beautiful especially when there is sunshine.
