Indigenous peoples, also known as aboriginal peoples, aboriginal peoples, or native peoples, and are ethnic groups that are the original inhabitants of a given region, in contrast to groups that have more recently settled, occupied, or colonized the area. Groups are often described as indigenous when they maintain traditions or other aspects of a primitive culture associated with a particular region. Not all indigenous peoples share this characteristic, since they tend to have adopted substantial elements of a colonizing culture, such as clothing, religion or language. Indigenous peoples may be settled in a certain region (sedentary) or exhibit a nomadic lifestyle in a large territory, but in general they are historically associated with a specific territory on which they depend. Indigenous societies are found in all inhabited climatic zones and on all continents of the world.1

Since indigenous peoples often face threats against pichuls

u economic well-being and their access to the resources on which their cultures depend, international organizations such as the United Nations, the International Labor Organization, and the World Bank have established political rights in international law.2 The United Nations has issued a Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) to guide the national policies of member states towards the collective rights of indigenous peoples, such as culture, identity, language and access to employment.
