An optical instrument that allows observing distant objects in much more detail than the naked eye by capturing electromagnetic radiation, such as light.
It is a fundamental tool in astronomy, and each development or refinement of this instrument has allowed advances in our understanding of the Universe.
Since Galileo Galilei used it in 1610 to observe the Moon, the planet Jupiter, and the stars — mankind was finally able to begin to know the true nature of the celestial bodies that surround us and our location in the universe.
