Comparatives in English.

1. María is taller than John.
Tall es un adjetivo de una sílaba, al igual que short, small, long, por lo que, al comparar, se le agregará el sufijo “er” y la palabra than.
2. Roger is happier than Gerry.
Happy es un adjetivo de una sílaba, pero termina en “y”, por lo que se cambia la “y” por” i”, más el sufijo “er” y la palabra than. En este caso la regla aplica también a funny, sunny, easy, lucky.
3. The dog is fatter than the cat.
Fat es un adjetivo que tiene una consonante -vocal- consonante (C-V-C), por lo que se duplicará la última consonante, la “t”, y se agregará el sufijo “er” más la palabra than. Esta regla también se aplica a sad, big, hot, wet.
4. This English book is more interesting than this one.
Para los adjetivos que son de más de una sílaba se utilizará la palabra more y no se hará ningún cambio al adjetivo, después se agregará la palabra than. Ejemplos de estos adjetivos son: intelligent,
amazing, expensive, beautiful, exciting, active, useful.
