You have learned how to use the simple past and past perfect form of the verb
in a sentence. Do not be confused when to use the simple past and the past perfect
tense. Now, you are ready to do the following enrichment activities.
A Fill in the blanks with the appropriate forms of the verbs inside the parentheses
using simple past and past perfect tenses.

1. Before the students had started to answer, the teacher instructed them what to do.

2. The students had mastered the tenses of the verb before they moved on to the next lesson.

3. They had asked many questions when they did not understand the lesson well.

4. After Lemy had read the book, her friends borrowed Dan his book report before the deadline had come.

5. He had thought of the answer when the teacher called him.

I think it needs no explanation, just to put had + past participle of the verb for the past perfect. Past simple is easier, as you may only remember to add -ed at the end of each verb and you may as well remember the tenses of each individual irregular verbs.

Number 4 was quite confusing, as you may have written it uncorrectly.
