Empezó a pintar cuando tenía

un niño. Sus primeros dibujos fueron

caricaturas de amigos y profesores.

Trabajó en las calles vendiendo su

cuadros para turistas. En 1932, inició

sus estudios en la Escuela de Bellas Artes

en Quito. Su primera exposición fue en

1942. En sus pinturas, mostró un

sociedad indígena oprimida. Su

las pinturas eran sobre el dolor y

miseria de los humanos.
