Una de las características más sobresalientes del contacto entre indígenas y españoles en América es la adaptación del mundo europeo al americano y viceversa. Esta abarca aspectos importantes como la "indianización" de la lengua y la cultura españolas (Parodi 2006) y la "hispanización" de la lengua y la cultura indígenas desde los orígenes del contacto hasta nuestros días. Dichos conceptos permiten diferenciar el español americano del peninsular, sobre todo en lo que atañe a los préstamos y a la creación de signos biculturales en el español y en las lenguas indígenas principalmente. Me enfoco sobre todo en el contacto de indígenas y españoles en las Antillas y en la Nueva España, donde tuvo preeminencia el náhuatl.

One of the most salient characteristics of the contact between Indians and Spaniards in the Americas is the adaptation of the European world to the world of the native people of the Americas and vice versa. This adaptation includes important aspects such as the "indianization" of the Spanish language and culture (Parodi 2006) as well as the "hispanization" of the Indigenous language and culture since the origins of the contact to our days. These concepts allow characterizing Latin American Spanish from Peninsular Spanish regarding loanwords and on the creation of "bicultural linguistic signs" in Spanish and in the Indigenous languages of the Americas, mainly in Nahuatl. I use Mikhail Bakhtin's (2002) dialogic system to explain the processes of language and culture contact.
