Mountaineering is the sport of walking and hiking in the mountains. Unlike hiking, which is normally done on marked trails, and trekking, a journey of several days through distant environments, mountaineering is motivated by the destination, the mountain, and by routes of more difficulty. If the objective of the mountaineer is to reach the top of the mountain, we can define it as ascension, and if this requires climbing techniques, we call it mountaineering.

Mountaineering is not just a sport, it is a recreational activity that involves exploring the environment and a love of nature. A longing that man has always had and that causes a relationship between human beings and the mountains that is sometimes difficult for most people to understand. The incomparable sensation of reaching a peak after an effort is intertwined with the countless adventures that lie behind the beauty of its landscapes.

Being a mountaineer is a beautiful art that cannot be paid for with anything. The trip to the top of a mountain is the most beautiful thing that can be lived, a profound experience that can surely fill a lifetime.

Depending on the type of terrain, the height of the mountain, and the weather conditions, we can classify the mountaineering excursions into low, medium and high mountains. The classification varies depending on where we are on the planet.

low mountain (In Spain up to 1,500 m). Abundant vegetation and little rock. Where hiking is usually done.

medium mountain (In Spain from 1,500 to 2,500 m). Tree and robust vegetation. Abundant rock. In winter there is usually snow. Usual environment for hiking and trekking activities.

high mountain (In Spain from 2,500 m.) Rocky terrain, without vegetation. Extreme temperatures. It is where Mountaineering is practiced.
