It feels good. Satisfaction and pride in helping others are important reasons to volunteer. When you commit your time and effort to an organization or cause you are a part of, the feeling of satisfaction can be enormous.
It makes your community stronger. Organizations and agencies that work with volunteers offer important services at little or no cost to people in need. When a community does well, people are better too.
You can strengthen your family. Volunteer work is a great way for families to have fun and feel closer together. But it can be hard to find the time to volunteer. So try to reformulate some of the free time you have as a family. You could select one or two projects per year and make them a family tradition (for example, making and donating gift baskets to nursing homes for the holidays
