Present Continuous

El tiempo verbal Presente Continuo es muy similar al español en su forma y uso.

Uso

Se usa para describir acciones que están ocurriendo en este momento, ya sea en el momento

exacto en el que se está hablando (I am reading= Yo estoy leyendo) o en ese período de tiempo

(I am watching a series = Yo estoy mirando una serie – por ejemplo, en los meses de cuarentena)

Forma

Afirmativa Sujeto + am | is | are + verbo acabado en -ing.

Es muy común usar la forma contraída ’m, ’re, ’s.

Ejemplos:

verbo WORK= trabajar

I am working (Yo estoy trabajando)

You are working (Tú estás trabajando)

He is working (Él está trabajando)

She is working (Ella está trabajando)

It is working (Esto está trabajando)

We are working (Nosotros estamos trabajando)

You are working (Ustedes están trabajando)

They are working (Ellos están trabajando)
Negativa

Sujeto + am not | is not | are not + verbo acabado en -ing

Es muy común usar las formas contraídas ’m not, 're not o aren't, ’s not o isn't.

Ejemplos: I’m not working

You aren’t working

He isn’t working

She isn’t working

It isn’t working

We aren’t working

You aren’t working

They aren’t working

Interrogativa

Am | is | are + sujeto + verbo acabado en -ing ?

Para hacer preguntas, lo único que tienes que hacer es invertir el orden del sujeto y del verbo To Be.

Ejemplos: Am I working?

Are You working?

Is He working?

Is She working?

Is It working?

Are We working?

Are You working?

Are They working?

Para contestar con short answers (respuestas cortas)

Yes, + sujeto + am | is | are

No, + sujeto + am not | isn't | aren't

Ejemplos:

Am I learning English? Yes, you are.

Are they learning German? No, they aren't.

Is it working? Yes, it is.


Ejercicios:

1 Escribir el verbo que está entre paréntesis en presente continuo. (“not” indica que es una

oración negativa). No olvidar las reglas de ortografía al agregar “ing” a los verbos.
