Thomas Munro introduced the Ryotwari system in 1820. The main areas of introduction include Madras, Bombay, parts of the Assam and Coorgh provinces of British India. In the Ryotwari system, property rights were handed over to the peasants. The British government collected taxes directly from the peasants. The Ryotwari System income rates were 50% where the lands were dry and 60% on irrigated lands.
