In this paper, we try to outline a comprehensive model of analysis of poetical texts applied lyrics of Spanish pop-rock songs. This alternative model of literary education is specially addressed to youngsters between 14 and 18 years old so that they could become conscious that lyrics of everyday pop songs contain a certain degree of poetical elaboration. Poetical aspects studied in this article, always applied to lyrics of Spanish pop-rock songs, include a wide range of matters such as poetical genres, intertextuality, literary commonplaces, metrics and analysis of verse, rhetorical features (both figures of speech and figures of thought) and imitation of previous literary models (courtly love poetry typical of Late Middle Ages and Renaissance and “Generación del 27” surrealistic poetry).
