Television is a system for the transmission and reception of images and sounds at a distance that simulate movements, which uses a diffusion mechanism. The transmission can be carried out by means of radio waves, by cable television networks, satellite television or IPTV, which exist in open and paid modes. The receiver of the signals is the television, although it is also called television, and is usually abbreviated as "tele".
Today most of the televisions for sale are flat and digital with technologies such as LED, Plasma or others.
The word "television" is a hybrid of the Greek τῆλε (tēle, "far") and the Latin visiōnem (accusative of visiō "vision"). The term television refers to all aspects of television broadcasting and programming. It is sometimes abbreviated as TV. This term was used for the first time in 1900 by the Russian physicist Constantin Perskyi at the International Congress of Electricity in Paris (CIEP). Television is the mass media par excellence. As seen in the data showing that the average person watches more than four hours of television a day [1]. It is also estimated that children spend more time watching television (1023 hours per year) than studying at school (900 hours per year) [2]. This causes a high impact on a social and pedagogical level, which is why it is a fairly common object of study in Philosophy and Social Sciences.
World Television Day is celebrated on November 21 in commemoration of the date the first World Television Forum took place at the United Nations in 1996.
