Yesterday was hotter than today.

Este un texto en ingles donde se usan comparativos y superlativos:

At home we have some difference between me and my brothers and sisters. The oldest is Julia, but beside her age she is the shortest of the three of us. My little brother Samuel is better in mathematics than the rest of us, and me, I can run and swim faster the all.

En ingles, construimos los comparativos añadiendo la particula -ER al final del adjetivo, seguido colocamos la palabra THAN (que) y luego el objeto o sujeto con el que queremos comparar:

SUJETO + VERBO + [ADJETIVO+ER] + THAN + SUJETO DE COMPARACIÓN

Como por ejemplo:

• My car is newer than yours
• She eats faster than me
• Mario is taller than John

Mientras que los superlativos (que son adjetivos que indican el máximo grado  de una característica). Tipicamente se construyen añadiendo a un adjetivo la partícula -EST si:

• El adjetivo es monosilabo (Tall → Tallest)
• Tiene dos silabas y termina en y (Easy → Easiest)

Sin embargo exist

en palabras que gramaticalmente no se construyen de esta forma sino añadiendo antes la frase THE MOST :

• Esta formado por dos silabas pero la palabra no termina en y (
• Es mayor a dos silabas (Beautiful → The most beautiful)

Aunque existen otros casos excepcionales donde la forma superlativa es irregular como:

• Good → Better → Best
• Far → Further → Furthest
• Bad → Worse → Worst
