The Seasons
The four seasons are caused by the Earth changing relationship to the Sun, but before we get into the details, let’s have a quick look at the Earth.
Earth’s axis is an imaginary line that runs through the centre of the Earth from top to bottom. Earth makes a complete spin around this line every day. The equator is the imaginary line that runs through the middle of the Earth, splitting it into Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
The Earth orbits the Sun every 365 days and while it does this, it also spins on its axis every 24 hours. Because the Earth’s axis is slightly tilted, each part of the planet is getting a different amount of light. This difference creates the seasons. The hemisphere tilted towards the Sun will have more sunlight, it will be summer; the hemisphere leaning away from the Sun will have less sunlight, it will be winter. Areas north and south of the equator have opposite seasons. When it’s winter in the north it’s summer in the south. Areas near the equator aren’t affected by this tilt, they get the same amount of sunlight all year round. This is why they do not have four seasons like the rest of the world, they are warm all year round or they just have two seasons, a wet one and a dry one.
The day when Earth is tilted most towards the Sun is called the summer solstice, it is the longest and sunniest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere it is on June 21st). The day when Earth is turned furthest from the Sun is the winter solstice, it is the shortest and darkest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere it is December 21st). There are two days of the year where the days and nights have the same amount of hours, these are the equinoxes, they are normally on September 22nd and March 21st.

Las estaciones
Las cuatro estaciones son causadas por el cambio de relación de la Tierra con el Sol, pero antes de entrar en detalles, echemos un vistazo rápido a la Tierra.

El día en que la Tierra se aleja más del Sol es el solsticio de invierno, es el día más corto y oscuro del año (en el hemisferio norte es el 21 de diciembre). Hay dos días del año donde los días y las noches tienen la misma cantidad de horas, estos son los equinoccios, normalmente son el 22 de septiembre y el 21 de marzo
