Expressing existence: There is – There are

Para decir lo que hay o no hay en alguna parte, en inglés utilizamos las formas There is y There are
Cuando queremos decir que hay o no hay una sola cosa (SINGULAR) usamos “there is” (o there’s)
Pero para decir que hay o no hay varias cosas (PLURAL) usamos “there are”.
Examples:
Hi! I´m Tom. Look at my bedroom! There is a table and there is a red chair. There’s a computer on the table, and there are pencils and pens. There isn´t a DVD player, but there is a CD player and a radio.
There’s a poster on the wall, and there are seven photos too.
Look at the shelves. There aren´t any books on the shelves, but there is a TV, a photo and a ball.
There isn´t a sofa in my bedroom, but there is a black bicycle. It´s awesome!
Tell me about your bedroom. Is there a computer in it? Are there any photos?

Ball: pelota
Magazines: revistas
Books: libros
Awesome: asombrosa
Desk: escritorio
Fish bowl: pecera




Now look at the picture again and complete the sentences about Tom´s bedroom:
Use: There is / there isn´t (for singular nouns)
Use: There are / there aren´t (for plural nouns)

Magazines: There are magazines.
A fish bowl: There isn´t a fish bowl
