1)THE VIKINGS .A BIT OF HISTORY.(LEER EL TEXTO Y LUEGO RESPONDER LAS PREGUNTAS)

. Do you know where the word THURSDAY comes from?it´s a combination of two words , THOR and DAY : THOR´S DAY. THOR was the god of thunder in sacandinavian mythology.

The vikings lived in Scandinavia and were expert navigators. They first invaded England in AD 793,  when they raided the monastery at Lindisfarne  ,a small island , some of the monks were drowned , others killed or taken away as slaves along with many treasures of the church. Some vikings were violent but other vikings weren´t. Women in the viking age enjoyed more freedom and had more power than many other women of their day. The children didn´t go to school, they helped their parents at work and learned about history and religion from stories. Finally, in 1066 the Viking Age finished  when the normans conquered England at the battle of Hastings.
