El primer condicional tiene la siguiente estructura:
If + sujeto + presente simple + sujeto + will + verbo en infinitivo (sin to)
If you read this, you'll learn how to use the first conditional.
En la parte del condicional que contiene if nunca metemos will. No obstante, se puede alterar el orden sin que tenga que empezar la oración siempre por la parte de if. También se puede decir así:
Sujeto + will + verbo en infinitivo (sin to) + if + sujeto + presente simple
You'll learn how to use the first conditional if you read this.
Aunque en español a veces te pegue más usar el presente simple, acuérdate de que en inglés el futuro es absolutamente necesario: If you listen to me carefully, I’ll tell you all about it (Si me escuchas con atención, te lo cuento).
La práctica
A ver qué tal esta cadena de condicionales. ¡No caigas en la trampa de poner los dos verbos en presente simple en la primera frase!
Si tienes prisa, ya me encargo yo. If you’re in a hurry, I’ll take care of it.
Si aprueba (él) el examen, le subirán el sueldo. If he passes the exam, he’ll get a raise.
Nos dejarán entrar si llevamos corbata. They’ll let us in if we wear a tie.
Won’t se pronuncia /uóunt/ con un sonido vocálico largo. ¡Practícalo!
No sabrás a qué sabe si no lo pruebas. You won’t know what it tastes like if you don’t try it.
Si no lo intento, creerán que soy un gallina. If I don’t try, they’ll think I’m a chicken.
Si no sale bien la foto, la borraremos. If the picture doesn’t come out right, we’ll delete it.
En las preguntas no usamos contracciones, pero sí hay que invertir el orden de will y el sujeto. ¡Que no se te olvide!
¿Se quedarán más tiempo si no estamos allí? Will they stay longer if we aren’t there?
¿Se quedará dormida si nos vamos? Will she fall asleep if we leave?
¿Te quedarás despierto si voy? Will you stay up if I go?
