The heart and lungs work together to get oxygen and circulate it to cells throughout the body and to collect carbon dioxide (and some other waste products) from cells throughout the body and get rid of them. The heart circulates blood. Two chambers of the heart (the right atrium and ventricle) circulate blood to the lungs (where oxygen is added to the blood), and back to the heart, where the other two chambers (the left atrium and ventricle) of the heart send the blood through the rest of the body
