THE LEGEND OF THE CEIBO FLOWER.

In Argentina there lived a little indian girl who loved her country very much. She would wander the forest where she lived, talking to the birds, the flowers, the animals that lived there. She was known by the sweetness of her voice that continually sang chants of her tribe. When she sang, even the babbling river seemed to quiet, to hear her. One day, something that looked like a giant, White winged, bird came up the river. Out of it came bearded men covered by shiny metal. They rode on four legged beasts and looked like monsters with two heads and it destroyed the plants that it walked on. Her tribe decided to defend the earth and ride themselves of the unknown monsters. They fought for many weeks, but they were slowly being pushed out of their land of beautiful forests, rivers and mountains. The Little indian girl, though very Young, fought also and was as brave as any in the tribe; her voice not singing anymore, but instead shouted war cries, encouraging the men and women to fight. One day she was captured and became their prisioner. In their camp, she managed one night to break free and after badly beating one of the guards escaped, but was captured again. The guard she had beat, had died and the other men sentenced her to death at the stake for being witch because to them it was the only way a Little girl could have killed the man. Tied to the stake with fire all around her, instead of crying out in pain, she began to sing a song to her tribe’s supreme god, asking him to help protect her tribe, their forests, and rivers.
