The history of slavery in the ancient world is closely linked to war. The documentary sources of the ancient world, such as those of Mesopotamia and Egypt, the original peoples of Israel, Greece, Rome, Persia, or civilizations such as the Mayan, China, the Aztec and India, are full of references to slavery linked to warlike events . Often, prisoners of war were enslaved by the victors, and forced to work in military or civilian tasks, such as labor for construction, engineering, or agricultural jobs. Its use for domestic service was also common. Many homes of antiquity, especially those of the upper classes, required the labor of one or more slaves as regular labor. Regardless of the testimonies and written documents, evidence of slavery as labor and as domestic help is also found among the peoples who did not possess writing, such as the nomads of Arabia, the native peoples of America, the hunters and gatherers of Africa, New Guinea and New Zealand, and among Northern Europeans, such as the Vikings.

There were also other forms of adoption of slavery in addition to war, such as penal sanction or payment of debts. Thus, among some African groups, women and children were handed over as hostages to debts or other obligations until paid; and, if the payment was not made, the hostages were considered slaves.

Many of the ancient societies had greater numbers of slaves than free people, thanks to the custom of reducing the population under their control to slavery. Slavery generally included abuse and cruelty by their owners, although they could often be treated more humanely if they were viewed as valuable assets.

Slavery is the state of a slave. It is a system in which people are treated like property, they are sold, bought and forced to work or perform certain tasks. A person freed from slavery is called a freedman (especially during the Roman Empire).

Being generous in life has infinite value. If you are guided by generosity, if you want to contribute something of value to others, without keeping score, you will notice how at some point you will also receive value in the form of time, knowledge, learning or experiences.
