María Parado de Bellido is one of the martyrs of the Independence of Peru. She was born in Huamanga in 1777, being the daughter of Don Fernando Parado and a humble peasant woman from Ayacucho. At the age of 15, she married Mariano Bellido, with whom she had 7 children.

In late 1820, her husband and two sons joined the independence guerrillas. In 1822, he collaborated as an informant for the guerrilla chief Cayetano Quiroz. Thanks to his messages, the patriots left the town of Quilcamachay, when they approached a powerful enemy army.

In Quilcamachay, the Spanish general José Carratalá discovered one of his letters and ordered his capture. The Huamanguina was tortured, but her companions were not betrayed. She was shot in the Pampa del Arco de Ayacucho on May 1, 1822.
