On 1st January, people all over the USA are going to compete in the animal Couch Potato Competition. Couch potato is an expression to describe a very lazy person Couch means sofa. A couch potato’s favorite activity is sitting on the sofa, watching TV
The rules for the Couch Potato Competition are simple. You must sit on a big comfortable chair and watch sport on TV. You can stand for five minutes every hour and you can go to the toilet three times a day. You can also have food and drink all the time. But the competition isn’t easy. The competitors mustn’t go to sleep and the competition usually continues for days. People often start to prepare for it the day before. They don’t eat or drink very much and they go to bed early
Twenty-six-year-old Jeff Miller, from Chicago, was the 2010 Couch Potato World Champion and he broke the Guinness World Record for watching sport. Miller sat in front of the TV for 72 hours and he didn’t fall asleep once! It won’t be easy to beat Miller’s record next year. But, if you win the competition, you will get some great prizes. The prizes include an award, a TV, an armchair and free cable TV

El 1 de enero, personas de todo Estados Unidos competirán en el Concurso Couch Potato de animales. Couch Potato es una expresión para describir a una persona muy perezosa. Couch significa sofá. La actividad favorita de un adicto a la televisión es sentarse en el sofá, mirar televisión
Las reglas del concurso Couch Potato son sencillas. Debes sentarte en una silla grande y cómoda y ver deportes en la televisión. Puede estar de pie durante cinco minutos cada hora y puede ir al baño tres veces al día. También puede comer y beber todo el tiempo. Pero la competencia no es fácil. Los competidores no deben dormir y la competencia suele durar días. La gente suele empezar a prepararse para ello el día anterior. No comen ni beben mucho y se acuestan temprano
Jeff Miller, de 26 años, de Chicago, fue el Campeón Mundial Couch Potato 2010 y rompió el récord mundial Guinness por ver deportes. Miller se sentó frente al televisor durante 72 horas y no se durmió ni una vez. No será fácil batir el récord de Miller el próximo año. Pero, si gana la competencia, obtendrá grandes premios. Los premios incluyen un premio, una TV, un sillón y TV por cable gratuita.
