En este artículo vamos a darte las claves para usar el verbo haber en inglés correctamente.
La teoría
Para expresar el verbo haber, combinamos there con el verbo to be. Aunque en castellano se usa hay tanto para el singular como para el plural, en inglés debemos diferenciarlos. En el singular la forma que utilizamos es there is. Vamos a ver unas cuantas frases:
Hay un perro fuera.
There’s a dog outside.
No hay un perro fuera.
There isn’t a dog outside.

Las pautas de uso de there is son las siguientes:
Los sustantivos en singular llevan el artículo a o an
Para formar la afirmativa del singular, decimos there is, casi siempre contraído: there’s, /dzées/.
Para formar la negativa del singular, decimos there isn’t, /dzérisant/ o there’s not, /dzéesnot/. Ambas son contracciones de there is not, pero la forma completa es muy poco común.
