Task summary: ■ This writing task is a sports report for a sportscast. You should write a report about an international, local, or school sports event that you’ve attended or seen on TV. ■ The focus of this writing lesson is how to use pronouns. Use the How To box on page 46 to find out why we use pronouns and for help using them. ■ Use the grammatical structures from Unit 9 in your answer. Use relative clauses from page 41 and how to make comparisons from page 43. ■ Use the Words & Beyond lists on page 68 for useful vocabulary about sports, sports equipment, as well as adjectives to describe feelings and impressions. ■ Write about 100 words for this task. MOVE BEYOND ■ Brainstorm before you make your plan. Give yourself two minutes to think of as many ideas as you can and write them down on a piece of paper. Then pick the best one to write about. You get better at brainstorming with practice and it can really start to help you think of good ideas. ■ Use the present perfect and ever or never to make your writing sound more exciting, for example, I’ve never seen a better shot. ■ Show what you know! Use both comparatives (better than) and superlatives (the best) in your answer. ■ Use a variety of adjectives from the Words & Beyond lists on page 68 to make your answer more interesting and colorful.
