Many years ago, i took my eldest daughter Samantha who was four years olf at the time to her cousin's birthday party in Newcastle. As my car wasn't working properly, we both traveled by train. Samantha was very excited because she had never been on a train before. She stood near the window and asked a lot of questions about the things she saw. Half way through our journey, a middle-aged lady came into our compartment and sat opposite Samantha. 'Hello, little girl', she said. My daughter did not answer her, but looked at her curiously with her big brown eyes. The lady opened her handbag and started to put some makeup on her face. 'Why are you doing that?' Samantha enquired. 'To make myself look more beautiful', the lady answered. She packed away her makeup and smiled kindly at us both. To my astonishment, Samantha carried on looking at her and said 'but you are still ugly!'.
