Speak is more formal than talk.

Example:

• I need to talk to my friends about our problems.

• I need to speak to my lawyer about that matter.

Speak is an irregular verb and talk isn't. Because speak is an irregular verb its past tense form is spoke whilst talked is the past tense form of talk.

Also speaking is more like relaying an information because it comes from the word speech which means to deliver an address to an audience and talking is more like starting or having a conversation with someone. Speak and talk is synonymous.
