In the society in which we live more and more, there are greater advances in technology, thus being a necessary tool for the different areas of our life (work, social, school, ...). Communication through social networks and mobile phones cause a change in the way we relate. This change causes loss of face-to-face communication. It is very common for patients to come to the consultation with psychological problems due to these changes in the way we relate (difficulties to empathize, poor social skills, social phobia, antisocial behavior, anxiety, depression ...)

WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?

Communication is understood as the process in which information is transmitted and received. For there to be a communication process, there must be several elements: a sender (who emits the message), receiver (who receives it), a message and a communication channel (written, oral, ...). According to how the form of communication according to the means used can be: written, interactive, signs ...

WHY IS FACE-TO-FACE COMMUNICATION IMPORTANT?

When we communicate, we not only transmit a message verbally, but there is a non-verbal language that is there, to which we do not give importance but which is the one that truly transmits the message to us (as we look, the tone in which we say it, the movements we make, gestures, ...). All this together is communication.

Gestural language says a lot about us and our message. Between them we have:

Body language —– movement of hands, grimaces, arms, fingers, legs)

Visual language- —- gestures and signs

The gaze ——- maintaining eye contact is very important for good communication.

It is beneficial to have good communication because it improves our entire work, family, social environment ... So communication influences the quality of life of people and the environment in which they live.

SIGNS OF HOW THIS WAY TO COMMUNICATE WITH INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS AFFECTS.

How mobiles affect relationships

When we communicate via the internet (facebook, whatssap, ...):

We lose all non-verbal information (gestures, movements, facial and body expressions, etc.)

When we meet a new person online there are things, attitudes and personality traits that we do not perceive as when that communication occurs face to face (it is more usual for deception to appear).

Quality is lost in interpersonal relationships (lack of social skills to relate when we are with other people).

Difficulties in the use of time (we do not take advantage of the time we spend when we meet friends because we are attentive to what is happening in the networks and to share everything that happens).

We lose our privacy because we publish every moment of our life

Unhealthy human relationships occur. It is very common to meet a group of friends in a cafeteria and they are talking on the mobile phone without looking or talking to each other.

The use of social networks also has a negative impact on the work and study of many people because it causes them not to be attentive to their responsibilities and as a consequence they do not perform their functions.

The attachment bond is lost. This bond of attachment that is created since the child is born is essential to create the identity of the person and belonging. In attachment relationships, there are looks, caresses, hugs, communicating emotions, ... With the use of social networks, relationships are superficial and physical contact is lost.

Thus, communication through social networks is important because we can maintain contact with people who are far away, it is very fast and easy and it allows us other forms of communication. However, our psychologists in Malaga, psychologists in Marbella and psychologists in Antequera indicate that face-to-face interpersonal relationships are substantial for people's emotional well-being and the loss of them can lead to future psychological problems (depression, anxiety, ...).
