Introduction
I chose this book because I read the synopsis and it really caught my attention.
Development
Shadowhunters introduces us to a world in which all tales and legends are true; in which vampires, werewolves, witches and fairies exist, along with the Nefilim, the most powerful race of humans created by the Angel Raziel with the purpose of making them keep humans - or worldlings - protected from the demons that They travel through infinite dimensions and leave a trail of destruction behind them.
City of Bones tells the story of a teenager of almost sixteen years called Clarissa Fray, who will be immersed in a world previously unknown - or not so unknown - to her along with her current friend Simon Lewis.
It all starts the night Clary and Simon go to a nightclub called Pandemonium. There, Clary will witness something that her eyes can't believe: three mysterious people armed to the teeth will end the life of an "innocent" boy with blue hair. From that moment, Clary's life will take and unexpected turn: it seems that she has lived deceived all her life, her mother has hidden a very important secret from her, and apparently, a VERY well-known shadow hunter named Valentine has kidnapped her with the purpose of finding an object that not even Clary herself knows.
The story is told by an omniscient narrator who in this book focuses mainly on Clary (we will see that in the next ones he focuses a little more on all the characters). Because they are my favorite books does not mean that they are not flawed, and here comes one that he considers very very important: the chapters are eternal. Each chapter is very long, and if it hadn't been for some leaps in time, reading this book would have been very heavy for me. In my opinion they are very extensive, perhaps perhaps, but the reading is fast and the plot very bearable.
Characters
MAIN
Clary Fray: She is a normal teenager, somewhat short, redhead and with green eyes. She loves to draw, and as she herself says, when she draws it is as if she is expressing everything that I cannot say with words. On many occasions you see how Clary sees things through the perspective of an artist, comparing what she sees with drawings, or simply how she would represent it.
Jace Wayland: Arrogant, sarcastic and with a terrible sense of humor that will either make you laugh until you cry, or make you think he is very impertinent. Blond, with golden eyes and esteemed the best Shadowhunter at the early age of 17, what more could you want? He believes he needs to save the world, and he is definitely going on any suicide mission headlong.
