Un organismo es un ser vivo que realiza por sí mismo cinco funciones vitales. Estas funciones son: 1) crecimiento y desarrollo; 2) uso de energía; 3) reproducción; 4) respuesta al medio ambiente y 5) eliminación de desechos. Las plantas, las personas y otros seres vivos son organismos.
Los seres vivos están compuestos por células. La célula es la unidad más pequeña de la materia viva. En otras palabras, las células son los "ladrillos" de los seres vivos.
