GRAMMAR: FUTURE TENSES (I)
Which of the following tenses do we use to talk about future actions?. Underline them
If you need help, go to pages 32-33 (workbook) or 105-106 (students’ book)

PRESENT CONTINUOUS · PAST SIMPLE · PAST CONTINUOUS ·
WILL + INF. · BE GOING TO + INF. · PRESENT PERFECT · PRESENT SIMPLE

To talk about future actions we use different tenses:
PRESENT SIMPLE
The film starts at 8.00
I’m tired. I’m going to bed I go to bed

PRESENT CONTINUOUS (AM, IS, ARE + -ING)
Mary is visiting us next month.
BE GOING TO + INF. (AM, IS, ARE GOING TO + INF.)
Lo usamos para:
• hablar de una intención: I’m going to study harder to pass all the exams
• hablar de planes para el futuro: We are going to travel to the USA next summer
Look at those black clouds! It’s going to rain!
WILL + INF
Recuerda : WILL NOT = WON’T
Usamos este tiempo verbal para:
• hablar de hechos futuros en general: Next week is my birthday. I will be 16
◦ It won’t rain tomorrow
It’s very hot! I’ll open the window
• hacer promesas y ofrecimientos: Don’t worry. I’ll help you

3. Match the future forms and the uses
1. He’ll probably come to my party a. future intention

4. I’m going to dance all night d. spontaneous decision
5. I’ll be 16 e. future plan

it’s fine.

Peter: The latest James Bond film. It IS STARTING / STARTS at 7.30.
Sue: ARE YOU DOING / DO YOU DO anything after the film?
Peter: WE’RE HAVING DINNER / WE HAVE DINNER at Mary’s house.
5. Complete with WILL/WON’T + inf or BE GOING TO + inf.
