Helen: I rang you at 8 pm last night, but there was no answer. What were you doing?

Luke: My mum and I were visiting my grandmother in hospital.

Helen: Why was she in hospital?

Luke: Yesterday morning she was not feeling well, so we called the doctor and he said that she needed to go to hospital.

Helen: What was she doing last night when you visited her?

Luke: She was sitting on a chair, not lying in bed. All the patients were having dinner and they were talking and laughing. She looked OK. When my mum phoned the hospital this morning, she was feeling much better.

Helen: That's good news.

Nota: Recordemos que el Past Continuous se utiliza para señalar acciones que estaban ocurriendo en un momento determinado del pasado.  Y, como en el Present Continuous, su estructura es auxiliar to be + verbo ing.
