GUAYAQUIL FOUNDATION:
The first foundation was made by Sebastián de Benalcázar, on July 25, 1535, on the banks of the Babahoyo River and destroyed by the Huancavilcas. The second is due to Francisco Zara in 1536. The third foundation was made by Francisco de Orellana, raising it in Cerro Verde on July 25, 1538. He immediately participated to the King of Spain, saying: "I founded and founded, on behalf of his Majesty, a city, to which I gave the name of Santiago."
