We use the present continuous both to talk about things we are doing right now and to comment on what we already have planned to do in the future. Compare:
-I'm driving home.
* I am going home by car.
-I'm going home next week.
* I will go to a house by car next week.
Although in both sentences we use the present continuous, in the second we talk about future action. We see the difference thanks to the time plugin next week. Other times we know from the context that we are using the present continuous to talk about the future.
