In 1996, treasure hunter Brock Lovett and his exploration team flocked to the RMS Titanic wreck to dive into the wreck of the sunken ship and find a choker with a valuable diamond known as "the Heart of the Sea."
By immersing a pair of Mir bathyscaphe in the remains of the Titanic, they manage to find the cabin and inside they discover a safe. Once they put it on the deck of the Akadémik Mstislav Kéldysh, Lovett and his team set out to open it in the hope that "the Heart of the Sea" would be there, but all they found were wet papers and a folder containing a charcoal drawing of a naked young woman who only wears a choker.
The sketch dates from April 14, 1912, the night the Titanic sank on impact with an iceberg. Given this finding, Lovett decides to announce his discoveries on television to find a witness or survivor who can provide more information about the drawing.
Indeed, far from there a 101-year-old woman named Rose Dawson is surprised to see the image of the naked woman on television and immediately calls Lovett to tell her that it is she who appears in the sketch.
The Ending:
Elderly Rose reveals that only six of the 1,500 people who failed to get on a boat managed to be rescued from the water, including her.
She also talks about the minutes after her rescue, when she and her other survivors of the wreck are taken to the deck of RMS Carpathia.
There he almost ran into Cal again, but avoided meeting him and at the present time mentioned that it was the last time he would see him, the Carpathia finally arrived in New York and, when he was a few meters from the Statue of Liberty, Rose discovers "the Heart of the Sea" in one of her coat pockets. Seconds later, when an officer asks for her name to register her, she identifies herself as Rose Dawson, Jack's last name.
However, the latter of the diamond is not told by the old Rose, so Lovett does not find out that she still has it in her possession. In this way his story ends and the members of the Kéldysh who had heard his anecdote are emotionally moved to tears. Among them are Lovett and his granddaughter Lizzy. Without anyone noticing, Rose throws the "Heart of the Sea" into the ocean at the stern of the Kéldysh and retires to her cabin to sleep.
