Emmeline Pankhurst Goulden (Manchester, July 15, 1858 - Hampstead, June 14, 1928) was a British political activist and leader of the suffrage movement, which helped women gain the right to vote in Britain. She founded in 1903 the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) related to the independent Labor Party. Its members were known by the name of suffragettes, they defended the use of violent tactics such as sabotage, painting large buildings in the city, the burning of shops and public establishments or attacks on the private homes of prominent members of the Government and Parliament. 1

"2 Her work is recognized as a crucial element in achieving women's suffrage in Britain
